Dark World: Into the Shadows with the Lead Investigator of The Ghost Adventures Crew by Zak Bagans
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I’m a big fan of the Ghost Adventures show, but I was really disappointed in Dark World.

One of the biggest issues is the writing. It was like a long winded, repetitive, poorly written essay that didn’t have enough content for the length required. Is this what it’s like to be a prof at university??

I swear I read the exact same sentences multiple times throughout the book. The thoughts were disorganized and not as well thought out or discussed as they could have been. I got the impression that it was a case of the author knowing what they were saying was correct, but unsure of what they needed to get across to convince the reader. At times the grammar was atrocious too, and I found myself proof reading it, which REALLY detracts from the book.

I really enjoyed the parts where Zak discussed his investigations, giving more insight to the evidence and adding a bit more realism to the show. I also enjoyed reading the biographical aspects, which was simply interesting.

As typical as it may be, I was bored to death reading all the parts discussing theories and quantum physics. Trust me, I went to university and have had to read a lot of articles like that, but the issue here was that the ideas and examples did not work well together, and the overall connection to the paranormal was poor. This may also have been because someone who did not have a full understanding of the theories was the one trying to explain it.

As for stressing the need to improve their scientific method, and create a central database… I just don’t get why they don’t go ahead and do that. They have a TV show! Set up an online database, and advertise it at the end of the episodes, on social media, whatever. Obviously they already have a pretty good network, and they could reach out to the locations as well to pass it along to future investigators. It’s not like money is really an issue when there are free resources on the internet.
